I went to Jamie's parent-teacher conference this morning. Her teacher had nothing but good things to say about Jamie. She said Jamie plays harder than any girl she has seen in a very long time. She follows the rules and routines well and gets along great with the other kids. She can write all of the letters in her name except for the 'e'. She suggested we ask Grampy (who is left handed) to help her learn how to write the letters.
The only thing the teacher said that sort of surprised me is that Jamie doesn't sing when the rest of the class sings during circle time. We all know how much the child likes to sing. I asked her about it later, and she said the rest of the class sings too loud. She likes to sing by herself.
Tonight Vic and Carson went on a cub scout outing to a fort. They ate dinner there and learned about the history of the fort. They even got to see a canon fired. Carson thought that was super cool and was impressed by how loud it was. He said he figured that noise would have knocked the soldier who was firing it right out, since he couldn't cover his ears and fire it at the same time. Then I commented that that wouldn't be a very good job to have. He said it would be an awesome job.
Today's pictures are of the party Jamie held at her Dora castle this afternoon and Caleb being just like his dad.

Jamie had a good time at Carmen's McDonald's party today. Grammy took her since I was helping in Carson's class this afternoon. She said Jamie had fun and was the last one to leave.
Caleb spent the day having fun over at Grammy & Grampy's house. I ran some errands this morning and then got to go to Carson's classroom this afternoon. I went over a list of frequently-used words with them and checked off the ones they knew so the parents will know which ones they need to work on. Carson only missed one! Then another mom brought in cupcakes for her son's birthday. They looked sooo good, but I resisted. Carson enjoyed his, though.
We also had a termite treatment done all around the house today, since Vic discovered termite damage around a window in the garage. The pest control tech was friendly, but a bit odd. I told him thanks for coming out and he said "Don't thank me, thank God." Alrighty then. He said that to me again a few minutes later. So, when I left to go to Carson's class I said to him, "Thank you, God!" That made him happy, and for some bizarre reason he directed me out of the driveway and into the road. I just hope he kills all the termites.
Tonight we went to a spaghetti dinner and silent auction for Jamie's preschool. The desserts were good.
Off to do the dishes and watch LOST now.

Jamie went back to school today. She was glad to be back, and we brought home her friend, Caroline, to spend the afternoon with us. They had a great time playing dress up, coloring, and playing outside. Caroline stayed until about 6:30, so Jamie missed dance tonight. She already said she didn't want to go anyway. My ears got a good rest today since she talked to Caroline all afternoon. Ahhhh.
Caleb and I went grocery shopping this morning and we'll be going back tomorrow since I forgot my list today. He spent the afternoon following the girls around and he also took a pretty long nap.
Carson is over at Grammy & Grampy's house tonight. He told me on the phone that he had a good part and a bad part of his day today. The good part was that he played Toontown and defeated the VP. The bad part was that he and all the other kids in his class had to stand by the fence for 1 minute at recess because they were talking in the hallway. He said he wasn't talking, of course.
He was having such a good time that he didn't want to talk to me on the phone, but he talked to me anyway, and he even blew a goodnight kiss to me through the phone.

February 26, 2008
Well, another day off of school for Jamie. She was saying her stomach hurt this morning. I am thinking maybe she is just growing fond of lounging around all day. I will be sending her tomorrow so that I can go to MOPS.
The little kids and I went to Walmart today, and I used my shopping cart cover, so hopefully that will help protect Caleb from germs. Jamie walked with me. Our Walmart is clean and neat, but I still feel scuzzy for some reason every time we leave there. Like I need to wash the Walmart germs off my hands as quickly as possible. That's kind of odd. Okay, that was random, but I guess that's what a blog is for.
We spent a long time in Walmart because we had to choose a gift for Jamie to give her friend, Carmen, at her birthday party Thursday. After examining every single Disney princess, Barbie, My Little Pony, Dress up dress, Littlest Pet Shop, & tea set in the place, she chose a baby Belle doll. I think Carmen will be pleased.
This was Carson's last day with his rented tank game, so he is kind of sad about that. I told him maybe he can earn another 5 day rental. I will make a chart or something. Lucky for him, it was a rainy afternoon, so he got some extra play time.
As an aside, I am sitting here typing and listening to some sort of critter scuttling around in the attic. This is not good. If you think the stomach virus blogs have been gross, be glad I wasn't keeping this blog a month and a half ago, when the last attic rat died behind our bathroom wall. Now THAT was a great time, lol. Now we are on the tail end of the fly outbreak that followed. I hope this one just moves out.
Off to fold some laundry now.
Because I am a gardening moron . . .
The plant we got from Vic and Joy is actually a plumbago. I don't know where I got Vinca from. Joy has told me the name of it 100 times. She told me again today. It's a good thing I now have it in print. I may forget tomorrow.

February 25, 2008
Caleb was very cranky today. Maybe his stomach is still hurting too. I hope he is back to normal soon. I have to go to the grocery store and Walmart tomorrow, and now I am very paranoid about picking up germs. This was a disgusting experience that I don't want to repeat. I am wondering what I can wipe the carts down with to keep the germs off my baby. I use those alcohol wipes at Publix, but maybe they aren't good enough. I wonder what kind of looks I would get if I take my big bottle of Lysol with me. That might be fun.
I am glad that Carson has stayed well. Somehow, that boy has an immune system that is like steel. He just rarely gets sick. I probably shouldn't have typed that.
I spent part of today reorganizing the laundry room. I am so happy with the new cabinets! I spend a lot of time in there, so this is pretty cool to me. Too bad I didn't actually wash any laundry today, but there's always tomorrow. And I only have one basket waiting for me.

No church for us today due to the nasty virus that Caleb is still recovering from. But that didn't stop Jamie from putting on a Sunday dress. I let her wear it outside but made her promise not to climb anything. She went for a swing and enjoyed a green popsicle.
Carson spent much of the day playing with his pals Nathan and William. He also played some of the games we rented Friday night. He is downstairs right now playing the tank one with Brent.
Vic, Caleb, & Jamie paid a visit to Grammy & Grampy's house today and they gave Vic part of their Vinca plant to put behind our mailbox. I am so excited about this. It has the most beautiful flowers.

February 23, 2008
I think we are finally on the mend. Vic had the virus last night but is okay now. Jamie still doesn't want to eat anything but is drinking okay. She spent most of the day resting and watching Barbie movies and playing Toontown. Caleb is eating a little now.
This morning, Carson and Vic worked on his Pinewood Derby car. The Pinewood Derby is next weekend. Some of the other kids' cars were at the meeting last Thursday, and Vic said they were really sleek looking. Their car is the basic triangle with wheels, but I'm sure it'll look super cool once it's painted. Vic said next year they are going to make the block of wood into a coffin shape and call it a runaway coffin, lol.
I spent the day washing sheets, towels and anything else that may have been touched by the virus in hot water. This virus has got to go.
The pictures are of Caleb playing outside, Jamie playing Toontown, Caleb trying to swipe Carson's drink this morning, and Vic working on the car.

February 22, 2008
The good news for today is that Caleb is doing much better. The bad news is that now Jamie has it. Poor girl. I am so ready for this virus to be gone. Yuck.
There's not much other news from today. Jamie was feeling fine this morning, so she went to lunch bunch and had a good time. The "Critter Lady" came to her preschool this morning and brought all kinds of small animals for the kids to hold and pet. Jamie has been to a birthday party where the Critter Lady brought her animals before, so she was familiar with all the animals already. She enjoyed seeing them again. Hopefully, the little critters can't catch stomach viruses. Otherwise, the Critter Lady is going to have quite a mess on her hands. Sorry, Critter Lady.
Vic took Carson to the Movie Gallery tonight to rent a couple of Wii games. He got another tank game and seems to like it quite a bit. Looks like you get to blow up lots of stuff in the game, so what's not to like? Vic picked out Super Mario Brothers. We are going to play that one later.
The pictures are of Caleb playing his cheese grater drum with his potato masher drumstick. He found these himself tonight and entertained himself for quite a while with them. In the other picture, Carson is playing baseball after school this afternoon.

February 21, 2008
Caleb came down with a stomach virus during the night last night, so it was not a very fun night or day for us. He has been a trooper, though. He only stopped running and climbing long enough to puke or get his diaper changed. I think he is doing a little better now. I sure hope no one else gets it. I am going to Lysol the house thoroughly tonight.
Jamie went to preschool this morning and then had a fun day playing with Grammy & Grampy.
Carson finally got his Cub Scout uniform this week, and tonight is his first time to wear it to a meeting. Thanks to Grammy for sewing all those patches in place for us! He looks so grown up, and really cute. :)

February 20, 2008
Caleb and I spent the morning trying to stay out of the house so he wasn't making messes faster than the cleaning lady could clean. We went to Publix, where he asked me to buckle him into the seat and then didn't try to climb out once. It was weird, and peaceful.
Jamie went on a safari at preschool today. She said she saw a porcupine. I don't think she was all that excited about the safari. She even gave her toilet paper roll binoculars to Caleb when she got home. I guess she's not big on the great outdoors right now. She spent the afternoon coloring, playing outside and playing Nick jr. games, then she went to dance class tonight.
Carson is over at Grammy & Grampy's house. I think they have been playing outside and playing Toontown today. So, I'm sure he has had a great day.

February 19, 2008
It was back to the routine today after a long weekend. The big kids went to school and Caleb and I did a bunch of laundry and ate too many Girl Scout Cookies. Why am I completely powerless against Tagalongs? I was doing great on Weight Watchers until these things arrived. There is something highly addictive about these tiny bits of peanut butter and chocolatey goodness.
Oh yeah, the kids. Well, not much to report today. They both had good days at school. Jamie's class is having Jungle Safari week this week. They made their binoculars today and they are all bringing in stuffed animals tomorrow for a safari.
Carson told me he had an extra good day at school. I asked him what made it an extra good day, and got a crazy answer that involved monkey bars, a blister on his hand and extra points. I think that means he had an extra good time on the playground. He also had an extra good night, I think, because we ordered pizza from his favorite pizza place. Then, when Vic got home, he brought Carson his new Cub Scout uniform. I can't wait to see him in it on Thursday!
Caleb is starting to talk a lot more lately. He is starting to put words together now. I can tell it makes him happy when he's able to tell me what he wants. It makes things much easier for me, too.

Here is a video of Jamie swinging and Carson being a wild man outside this afternoon.
The kids were out of school today for President's Day. We had a rainy morning, so the kids played inside until about noon. Then we went to Walmart and they each picked out a rainy day fun activity. Jamie chose a Color Wonder Set, Carson got some Blendy Pens with some posters to color, and Caleb got a Blues clues coloring set. They spent the afternoon working on their art and playing outside. I think every boy on the street was out this afternoon. They played Freeze Tag and tried to tackle Robert, a teenager who lives down the street. Carson should be good and tired tonight. Jamie and Caleb played more quietly in the back yard. I was afraid they would get run over out front. Not by a car, by the boys. :)

February 17, 2008
Today is the day that Jamie has been anxiously awaiting for the past two weeks. Sara's princess birthday party was finally here. I was so happy to be able to say, "yes!" today when Jamie woke up and asked me the usual question, "Is today Sara's princess party?". Jamie chose her pink princess Genevieve dress, her pink necklace, and her light-up princess sandals. She was lovely. So were the other seven little princesses. They all had a great time just running around and playing in their princess attire. I am going to remember this idea for Jamie's birthday next year. The girls loved it, and it would be way, way cheaper than Build-a-Bear.
Carson spent the entire day from about 11:30 until 6:00 playing with William. They were all over the place. They played inside, outside, our house and William's house. It is nice that he has a friend right across the street. I am sure it will be more of the same tomorrow, since they are both off of school.
Caleb didn't get much of a nap today. I think there was a bit too much excitement for him with Carson and William running around. He likes to follow William and Carson everywhere when they are in our house. He wants to fit right in with the big kids. I guess he got pretty whiny this afternoon with Vic because when I got home from the birthday party at 5:30, Vic said he had put Caleb in his bed. I didn't say anything, but my eyes must have kind of glazed over or something as I visualized myself up all night with a wired Caleb. Vic went and got him out of his bed. Luckily, he went right to sleep tonight around 8:15.

February 16, 2008
We had a quiet day today. Vic took Carson for a haircut this morning and then to the gas station for an Icee. The kids call this "the ice slushy store". When they returned home, Jamie saw Carson's Icee and wondered where hers was. So, Vic then took her on an outing to the ice slushy store. The rest of the day, the kids played outside or on the Wii and counted down the time until they went over to Grammy & Grampy's house.
They did finally get to go over to Grammy & Grampy's house a little after 5:00. Then, Brent and Ashley came over to our house and we ordered in dinner and played Wii. I think we need more practice before they come over again. :) It was fun, even though we got whooped for the most part. I was so into a tennis game at one point that I accidentally walloped Brent in the arm with the controller as I swung at the ball. We ended up winning that game. I am sure my arm will be sore for a few days now. Poor Brent's might be, too. It really was fun, though.
The pictures from today are of Carson playing golf on the Wii(and his new haircut), Jamie playing dress up this afternoon, and Caleb hiding under his bed trying to avoid a diaper change.

February 15, 2008
Carson had an easy day today. His school had early release today, so he got out at 12:30. Plus, today was Jump Rope For Heart day. All he had to do was go to school, jump rope, enjoy some heart-healthy snacks, eat lunch, and go home. Now he has a long weekend to look forward to.
Jamie didn't go to school today because she was coughing quite a bit during the night and this morning. She was fine during the day, though. I probably could have sent her to school. Right now she is refusing to go to sleep and pitching a fit because apparently she wants a cookie. So do I.
Caleb had a great day. He loves it when both the big kids are home. Compounding his joy was the fact that Grammy and Grampy came over tonight to babysit and brought pizza.
Vic and I went out to Tybee and ate at the Dolphin Reef. It's always nice to be out alone, but we were a little disappointed that they were serving a buffet. They were also offering a limited menu, but it was nothing we wanted. So, the buffet it was. It was good, but not quite worthy of the price tag, plus, buffets are too fast! We got home before the kids were in bed. We thought about driving around for the next hour (really, we did), but decided to head home. We'll just have to plan another night out soon. :)
Sorry, no pictures today because I still have not charged up my camera battery.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Caleb and Jamie spent most of their Valentine's Day over at Grammy & Grampy's house having fun. Jamie didn't go to preschool this morning because she woke up during the night with acid reflux. I let her have too much candy yesterday. I wasn't sure if her Prevacid would work after the fact, but I gave it to her anyway. It worked and within an hour she was back asleep(in our bed). I decided to let her sleep in and skip preschool. I'm sure she had more fun spending V-Day with Grammy and Grampy anyway.
I spent part of the afternoon in Carson's class today. In addition to tearing out worksheets from their Math books, I got to help them clean out their desks. Yikes. I don't think some of them have taken home a paper in weeks! :) They are all so sweet, though, and it is fun every week to be there.
I also turned in Jamie's pre-k application. I am starting to hope that she gets in. I think she will enjoy it.
Carson's class had a Valentine's treat and made a craft today. The room mother made it clear that it was not a party. I don't know why; maybe they're not allowed to have a party. He said they had cake, cupcakes and punch at the non-party. He had a good time and got lots of candy and Valentines. He also got to wear a red shirt today instead of a uniform shirt. They requested $1 for this privilege, and they are giving the money to help the victims of the sugar refinery explosion.
Vic brought me 11 beautiful red roses tonight, and 1 for Jamie. :) Jamie and I were both very happy. We are going out tomorrow night. I am not sure where yet, somewhere on the beach.
These are the only two pictures I got today before the battery died. Froggy and Taddy, and an extreme close up of Jamie. She busted her lip last night when she fell and hit the rail on her bed.
Hope you all had a nice Valentine's Day!

February 13, 2008
Jamie enjoyed her Valentine's Day party today. The whole preschool had their parties today instead of tomorrow. I'm guessing it's so that parents with a child in a MWF class and another child in a M-F class can attend both parties on the same day. The class had pizza, pigs in a blanket, cheetos, and various other yummy snacks. Then they were supposed to frost a heart-shaped cupcake to take home. Jamie frosted hers and immediately dug in. One of the moms even said, "Wow, Jamie just dove right into that!" Yeah, she likes cupcakes more than a little bit. She had it eaten in less than a minute and then asked me if she could lick the spoon that she had used to put the frosting on. I let her.
I can't believe all the candy she got from the other kids in the class. Is Valentine's Day getting a little out of control? I sent Valentines for her to give out that had one piece of candy taped to them. Three other moms did the same. The rest of the kids brought treat bags full of candy for all the other kids. I was very surprised. Then, tonight when we were driving home from dance, we saw two houses with red and white lights out. Huh. I like Valentine's day being one of the quiet, simple holidays.
Caleb had a fun morning playing with Grammy & Grampy and took a very long nap this afternoon! He is a candy fanatic. He saw Jamie's candy and did not stop begging for it and dragging chairs around the kitchen to try to reach it. I did give him a couple of pieces, but he wanted it all.
Carson went over to Grammy & Grampy's to spend the night after school today. They worked on homework and finished his Valentines and no doubt had lots of fun, too.
Oh, by the way, Taddy and Froggy are getting along great. They are even hanging out together now.

February 12, 2008
Jamie went for her four year old check up this afternoon. We got out of there with no shrieking, no screaming, and only minimal crying. She did try to knock the shot needle out of the nurse's hand at one point, but I can't really blame her for that. She was very brave and didn't make a scene.
She is 43 inches tall and weighs 43 pounds. That puts her in the 90th percentile for both weight and height. "Perfectly proportioned," according to Dr. Ben. Thankfully, she is also perfectly healthy. She passed a hearing and vision test also, and now she has the certificate that she needs if she gets into the pre-k. Today was her lucky day, as she was supposed to get five, yes five, shots, but they were out of three of them. Poor kid. Two was bad enough. Now we have to go back for three more. I'll put a picture of her at the bottom I took as we were leaving for the appointment. You'll notice that she dressed herself.
Joy watched Caleb for me and picked Carson up from school while we were at the doctor's office. They played on the playground at the school and then picked up dinner for us at McDonald's. That was a nice treat for everyone, especially Jamie after making it through her checkup.
I made the mistake today of leaving Jamie unattended with glitter glue while I put Caleb down for his nap. Oh, how she loves sparkles. She was making Valentines for the Grandparents. Some of them had a reasonable amount of glitter. Others had piles and piles of glitter. I had to blot off a lot of it, or they would have taken a month to dry. The kitchen table will be sparkly for at least a month. Jamie was pretty sparkly too, which was fine with her.
The pictures for today are Carson with his first school project that he turned in today, Caleb fishing for and successfully catching a leaf on his stick, and Jamie ready for her check up.

February 11, 2008
I think Caleb is chugging energy drinks when I'm not looking. He has been crazy lately. Getting into stuff non stop. Today's grocery shopping trip took me twice as long because he tried to climb out of the cart about 1,237 times. He also enjoys yelling and then laughing at himself, and yelling "hi" and "bye bye" to every single person we pass in the store. It's a good thing he is so darn cute and sweet too.
Carson sure is excited about the Wii. I've never had an easier time getting him to do his homework than today. He had to complete two math sheets, front and back, before he could play. Jamie is enjoying it, too. Tonight she beat Vic and Carson at a bowling game. Carson didn't like that at all. He likes to play the tank game with me because I haven't figured out how to do it yet and he can blow up my tank in about two seconds. I will have to practice.
Here are a couple of pictures from today. Carson is looking over his math homework, and Caleb is playing "moss fishing" in the back yard. He likes to try to pick up moss with sticks and then sling the stick around until the moss flies off. Not the safest game probably, but he is all about danger.

February 10, 2008
Another beautiful day today. Vic was doing sound for the church service this morning, so he had to be there an hour early. When I got the kids ready to leave at the regular time, my keys were no where to be found. Turned out Vic had accidentally taken them with him to church. So, the kids enjoyed the morning playing outside instead of going to church.
Later, Jamie, Caleb and I went to Walmart again and had copies made of my car key . . . again. I don't know where these copies keep going. Carson stayed home with Vic and played Toon Town.
Carson worked hard with very little complaining today to finish his report on Clownfish. So, tonight we let him play the Wii. He was so excited to be able to beat Vic at the tank game. He has been practicing over at William's house.
That's about it for Today. I have some dishes to do and then maybe a tennis match or 5 before bed.

February 9, 2008
Taddy's new habitat arrived today, along with the "froggy friend". I am a little concerned because the new frog, named Froggy, is about twice the size of Taddy. The tank consists of two cubes connected by a tube. Right now each frog is in a seperate cube. Neither of them has ventured through the tube yet. I hope Taddy has the good sense to hide somewhere if Froggy heads his way. Yikes.
Not much going on today. Vic didn't have to work today, and it was really nice to have him around on a Saturday. Jamie and I ran some errands while the guys stayed home. We spent a very, very long time looking at flowers at Walmart. She wanted some for the window box on the playset. Her indecisiveness plus her love for flowers led to a lengthy shopping trip. She finally settled on some very pretty pansies. We have already planted them, and they do look nice.
Poor Caleb took a tumble down the stairs today. I think he was trying to push his dump truck down the stairs and went down with it. He is fine except for a carpet burn on his nose. I am glad we have super thick carpet on the stairs.

February 7, 2008
I got to help out in Carson's classroom this afternoon, which is always fun. Today I went through a list of "outlaw" words(words that don't sound the way they are spelled) with the kids individually. I checked off the ones they knew so that parents will know which ones they need to work on. I was so impressed with how well Carson did! Only he and one other child knew the word "hurray". He is reading so well now it is amazing. I can't believe how much he has improved since last year!
While I was at the school, I picked up an application for Jamie to attend pre-k there next year. It is a full-day program. I hate the thought of her being at school all day next year. But it is mostly for selfish reasons. I'm not ready to let her go all day yet. But she will be 4 2/3 when the school year starts, and she is so outgoing, she would probably love it. So, we're going to apply. The lottery for enrollment will be held on March 18. She's already enrolled in the half-day program next year at the methodist church in case she doesn't get in to the public pre-k.
Caleb and Jamie had a fun day playing with Grammy and Grampy today. They were so worn out they were both asleep by 7:30.
Carson was excited today because his tadpole has almost completely lost his tail and is looking very much like a frog now. We ordered him a frog habitat and some frog food, and apparently these things come with a "froggy friend" for free. So now we will have two little aquatic frogs. One reviewer at Amazon said that their froggy friend ate their original frog. Hopefully, our froggy friend will be a little more friendly than that one was. We will see.

February 6, 2008 Maid day
I started out today by making Caleb mad at me by putting him in the nursery while I went to a MOPS steering team meeting. When I went to pick him up, all the other kids were sitting around a table enjoying a snack. Caleb was clinging to Mrs. Eunice like a little monkey. She said he did play almost the whole time and ate some snack too. He was just through with being in the nursery at that point. He got over it pretty fast.
The best part of today was while I was at my steering team meeting, the maids came to my house. WooHoo! I love maid day.
Here are a couple of pictures of Jamie and Caleb playing on the new play set this afternoon. Carson is spending the night with Grammy & Grampy tonight, so he is not in these pictures.

February 5, 2008 What a beautiful day!
Today was such a beautiful day! Mid 70s and sunny. Perfect. We stayed and played on the playground at Carson's school after we picked him up for a long time. Then the kids came home and played more on their new playset. By bedtime they were ready for some rest.
I took Jamie and Caleb with me to vote today. I thought this might be a bad idea, but it turned out great. They were perfectly well behaved. I love it when that happens. :) I explained to Jamie and then to Carson individually today that I would be voting for the person who I want to run for president. They each asked me if I was running for president, lol. You'd think I would have re-thought my wording after Jamie asked, but I didn't figure it out. When I told Carson that I was not a candidate for President, he said that was a good thing because if I were president there would be no one to pick him up from school. He would just be sitting there waiting for a very long time. I don't know how he comes up with this stuff.

February 4, 2008
We bought a Wii for Carson's birthday. He doesn't know it yet. We snuck it out last night after he was asleep and played tennis and bowling for about an hour. Vic has tennis elbow today. Seriously. That was so much fun! We are going to let Vic's arm rest tonight and get it out again tomorrow night! Heh heh heh.
February 4, 2008 My first Blog post
Last night at book time, Jamie brought me The Rainbow Fish book. She said " Look mommy, we've never read this book!" I reminded her that we have read that book lots of times. She replied, "but, we've never read it on THIS day, mommy."
So true. I love that the kids can get excited about every-day things in every-day life.
I'm off to the laundry room. I haven't folded any laundry yet on THIS day. :)
